I am so excited for my new post series, “Book Report”! I could go on and on about how much I love Usborne Books & More and why I think they are the best books (and they are), but I sell them and I am an adult. So I have asked a few Usborne Book lovin’ kids to “review” a book! So much better, right?

I asked the kids to read the book (obviously) then fill out a form (or the parent would do it) that was full of questions including what your name would be if you were a character in a book.  See fun, right? The questions are straight forward and pretty simple to answer for kids of all ages! This is supposed to be a fun exercise after all! Parents are loving it because they get to hear some AWESOME answers and hello, reading comprehension! Fun and educational, just like our books!

So now without further ado, I am pleased to introduce you to Snake, she is a 4 year old little lady, who loves silly books, learning to read and swimming. She has fallen in love with “Bug in a Rug” one of our Phonic books (more details about them at the bottom)

Snake is snuggled up reading the book!

QUESTION:  Did you like this book?

ANSWER: Yes. It’s my favorite!

QUESTION: Pick a Word that describes this book.

Snake goes on to tell us a little more about the book, if she could describe the book in one sentence she would say, “snug as a bug in a rug”.  “Bug in a Rug” has two characters, Bug & Slug and Bug was going to go work for Slug so he needed sleep. Snake’s favorite part of the book was when Bug falls asleep in the rug (what silliness?)!
The one this that Snake learned from the book is that sleep is important!  (Truer words have never been spoken)

Thank you Snake! We appreciate you taking the time to tell us a little bit more about a “Bug in a Rug”!

Here is just a little bit more information about Usborne’s phonic books (yup, there are more just like this)!  This is a fun story with amazing illustrations to keep young readers engaged! It can also be enjoyed by children who are beginning to read for themselves. The simple rhyming text helps to develop essential language and early reading skills, and there are guidance notes for parents at the back of the book. WOO HOO!
If you or your child LOVES Usborne books and would like to do a “Book Report” for me, check out this form!

Disclaimer: All participants in the “book report” did it because they love Usborne Books. They were not paid, but were rewarded with a special gift from me as a thank you!

B is for Book Review: B is for Bedtime

This is an adorable book for a toddler or preschooler who is learning the Alphabet. It is a great bedtime story and highlights each letter without beating you or the child over the head with this is the letter B!

This is a great book by Kane Miller Publishing and is the first picture book by Maragaret Hamilton and is illustrated by Anna Pignataro. Check out the cover for the book below! Its a hardback with great thick cardstock style pages. Perfect for the toddlers who love to help turn the pages!

B is for Bedtime

I am going to start with the illustrations. Each page is simple and perfect.  Its calming and peaceful. Not too busy but not too dull. My son, H loves looking for the little dog on each page and makes little comments about what he is up to.

B is for bedtime inside

I mean let’s be real… how cute is this dog? It kind of makes me want one. But then I think of all those chilly walks at 6 am in the winter I will have to do and decide that I will keep this cute little dog in the book. My mother in law ordered this book to keep at her house just because of the dog.

One reason I stinkin’ love this book is for the page above.  “B is for the book with my dad. It’s a winner.” My husband reads to my son every night (if he isn’t traveling) and H and I started a tradition of giving my hubster a book every Father’s Day that they can read together before bed! So this page right here… melts my heart.

My son learned his ABCs early on… not bragging… I honestly don’t know how it happened. I have no tips for you except sing the song and put out letters that are everywhere. BUT this book… its teaching him his lowercase letters. FOR REAL! Check out the video below of H reading the book!

So in closing… I highly recommend this book as a bedtime story, but also a lesson for the alphabet and the difference between Upper and lowercase letters!

Welcome to my Usborne Books & More blog! Have you heard of Usborne Books? No? Don’t worry… I’m happy to introduce you to this wonderful world of children’s books! You will never look at that book at Target the same way again!

Let me tell you a little about what we do! We publish high-quality, educational children’s’ books, all ages – infant up to young adult. We really focus on making our books unique and non-commercialized because we love to encourage kids to think outside the box. We also provide programs like book fairs, and fundraisers for schools and organizations.

I learned of Usborne right before my son turned two so just this past Summer. And I fell in love… hard. So did my son and husband. My son is an active little man, we will call him H. He is too young for me to ask if he wants to be a part of my business or on the web so we are going with abbreviations for all parties involved except me, you can call me Meghan! Here I am! I may show more of my face later.

I attended my first (EVER) Facebook party in August. My friend asked me to join this event and said “Usborne makes great children’s books and I think you would love them”. So I happily agreed, but I remember thinking “what in the world is this?”. I googled Usborne before the party because I didn’t want to go in and not know what I was doing. I ordered my first two books that night and agreed to host a Facebook party too!

I remember sitting on the couch with my husband the next Monday for “Money Mondays”. and he turns to me and says “You spent $40 at Usborne? What is that?” and my response was “I purchased the coolest books in the world for H and I am going to get more for FREE!”. And FREE books I earned! I think I got $120 worth of books for FREE plus a ton at a discount. When it came time to pick my free books,  I realized I wanted ALL the books for H (and for me and for my husband). Very fast, It became clear I needed to become a consultant.

The rest I would say is history and it is, but it took lots of conversations with my hubbie about becoming a consultant for a direct sales company.  I would love to say I started the business because I want to solve the literacy issues we face as a nation (which I totally am!) or because I grew up an avid reader who has read all the classics (I will… eventually)! I started because these books are super cool, my son sat still and I needed something for me! We all start different projects, hobbies and jobs for different reasons.  You could totally start as a consultant to earn some extra cash for vacations, bills or college or truly save the world from our literacy crisis! Those are all great reasons and all will be accomplished with Usborne. So I hope you enjoy this blog, my ramblings, book recommendations and pictures & videos! Welcome to the wonderful world of Usborne. The addiction is real!
